Patagonia

Auf unserer Reise in den Sueden sind wir nun auf dem 45. Breitengrad angelangt. Wir befinden uns in Coyhaique mitten im Herzen des chilenischen Teils von Patagonien. Auch wenn es in den letzten Wochen viel im Zickzck hin und her ging, steuern wir doch noch Richtung Feuerland.

Auf dem Weg hierher haben wir folgendes passiert:

On our trip South we reached a latutude of 45th. We are in Coyhaique in the heart of the chilean part of Patagonia. Even though we went zigzgways, back and forth we are still going in direction of Tierra del Fuego.

We passed the following places:

Parque National Conguillio (Chile)

Bei den Mapuche Indianern gilt der Vulkan Llaima als der "Boese Vulkan", denn er bricht alle paar Jahre aus und hinterlaesst grosse Lavafelder.

For the Mapuche indians vulcano Llaima is the "bad vulcano" because it erupts every few years and leaves big fields of lava behind.

Parque National Villarrica (Chile)

"Weg in schlechten Zustand" - "Path in bad condition"

"Lieber Besucher der Weg ist in sehr schlechtem Zustand nicht nach Coñaripe weiter fahren" - "Dear visiter the path is in very bad condition, don't continue to Coñaripe"

"Bruecke in schlechtem Zustand" - "Bridge in bad condition"

Die Schilder hatten recht, die Muehen haben sich aber gelohnt und in Coñaripe stossen wir nach einem Tag wieder auf eine "befahrbare" Strasse.

The signs were right, but it was worth the effort and after one day we met a "ridable" road in Coñaripe.

Carretera Austral (Chile)

Um dahin zu kommen, ging es zurueck nach Chile - To reach it we first had to go back to Chile

Patagonien bedeutet fuer uns: gruene Landschaft mit viel Wasser. In Fluessen, Seen und vom Himmel herab.

Patagonia is to us: green landscapes with lots of water. In rivers, lakes and from the sky.

An Heiligabend, 1km vor der Carretera Austral entfernt freuen wir uns im Regen den dritten Platten des Tages repariert zu haben.

On Christmas Eve, 1km from the Carretera Austral, we are happy to have repaired the third flat tire of the day.

Die Carretera Austral ist die einzige Verbindungsstrasse in den Sueden Chiles. Sie wurde unter General Pinochet waehrend der Militaerdiktatur gebaut. Sie fuehrt 1240km von Puerto Montt bis Villa O'Higgins und besteht zum allergroessten Teil aus Schotterstrassen. 
Die Region ist spaerlich besiedelt, aber mindestens einmal am Tag passieren wir einen kleinen Ort.

The Carretera Austral is the only connecting road to the south of Chile. It was build under the military dictatorship of General Pinochet. It leads 1240km from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins and is mainly a gravel road.
The region is sparsely populated but at least once day we pass a little village.

Der Wald war zu dicht, aber die wenigen Autofahrer haben sich sehr gefreut unser Zelt am Wegesrand zu sehen. - It was too densly wooded...the few car drivers were delighted to see us  camp at the side of the road.
